{"id":11827,"date":"2013-03-26T08:01:38","date_gmt":"2013-03-26T13:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lisadelay.com\/blog\/?p=11827"},"modified":"2013-03-26T08:06:46","modified_gmt":"2013-03-26T13:06:46","slug":"holy-week-reflection-anointing-the-anointed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisadelay.com\/blog\/holy-week-reflection-anointing-the-anointed\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy Week Reflection: Anointing the Anointed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lisadelay.com\/blog\/blog\/2013\/03\/26\/holy-week-reflection-anointing-the-anointed\/mary-of-bethany-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11828\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11828 aligncenter\" alt=\"Mary-of-Bethany-2\" src=\"https:\/\/lisadelay.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Mary-of-Bethany-2.gif\" width=\"260\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Reading<\/strong> for today:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0John 12: \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-1.htm\"><b>1\u00a0<\/b>Jesus, therefore, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-2.htm\"><b>2\u00a0<\/b>So they made Him a supper there, and Martha was serving; but Lazarus was one of those reclining\u00a0<i>at the<\/i>\u00a0<i>table\u00a0<\/i>with Him.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-3.htm\"><b>3\u00a0<\/b>Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-4.htm\"><b>4<\/b>But Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, who was intending to betray Him, said,<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-5.htm\"><b>5<\/b>\u201cWhy was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to poor\u00a0<i>people?<\/i>\u201d<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-6.htm\"><b>6\u00a0<\/b>Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box, he used to pilfer what was put into it.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-7.htm\"><b>7\u00a0<\/b>Therefore Jesus said, \u201cLet her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/bible.cc\/john\/12-8.htm\"><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Reflection:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary of Bethany wasn&#8217;t caught up in the excitement of a political revolution. James and John were gunning for cabinet positions but Mary saw Jesus as Anointed King and sacrificial Lamb of God.
