{"id":12884,"date":"2013-09-01T06:26:17","date_gmt":"2013-09-01T11:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lisadelay.com\/blog\/?p=12884"},"modified":"2013-09-11T07:44:52","modified_gmt":"2013-09-11T12:44:52","slug":"how-to-take-a-break-with-whimsy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lisadelay.com\/blog\/how-to-take-a-break-with-whimsy\/","title":{"rendered":"How-To: Take a Break with WHIMSY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes when we&#8217;ve been working hard or spinning our wheels,\u00a0<strong>rest<\/strong> it what we need most.<\/p>\n<p>But, never forget about <strong>WHIMSY<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>This week I was working on a new project and I could just tell I needed <strong>whimsy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>What is it exactly?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whimsy is caprice. It&#8217;s playful or humorous behavior. <strong>It&#8217;s the opposite of work and taking yourself too seriously.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are burned out, give it a try.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some ways:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Do something you did as a kid (a game, an activity, a piece of art, hopscotch, legos, build a card house, color, whatever you want.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Whistle. (People don&#8217;t whistle much anymore. It&#8217;s a crisis of scarce whimsy. Just pick something and do it.)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Create something for nothing but the fun of it. No one even has to see it. Exuberance and a no-holds-barred attitude is key!<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Sing or hum or play an instrument.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Whatever made you belly laugh last time? Do that again.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Tell a friend or family member a funny (or whimsically embarrassing) story and invite one from them.<\/p>\n<p>Just 5-10 minutes of pure whimsy works wonders!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>What did I do?<\/em> I made something whimsical. I call it a <strong>&#8220;Whimsy Box&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>(People have said that just looking at this makes them feel a creative burst coming on!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Each <em>Whimsy Box<\/em> is one-of-a-kind and tells a story.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s part art, part whimsical tale, part conversation piece, and part interactive inducer of creative <em>tsunamis<\/em>.<\/strong> Some Whimsy Boxes have a bona fide riddle about them or mystery to solve.
