The Jewish people have a big event, a central story, that encapsulates what the Jewish (and Judeo-Christian) faith is about:<\/p>\n

Crossing a sea: Crossing\u00a0from slavery to LIBERATION<\/h3>\n
\n

“Let my people go!”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is the cry of (the Jewish) God, the Living God, through Moses; and it’s really the cry of freedom in every human heart.<\/p>\n

So what do we want to be liberated from?<\/p>\n

Oppression.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, of course.<\/p>\n

…and oppression takes many forms.<\/p>\n

But, we\u00a0tend to also want\u00a0liberation from authority…and that’s not what God has in mind. That misses the mark and\u00a0produces\u00a0precarious results.<\/em><\/p>\n

In fact, the best liberation we can have is one that happens internally.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Our heart is liberated from sin and death and then we receive peace and life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is no marginal\u00a0quality of our faith tradition. Liberation is found not in fleeing something (or someone) but in returning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A homecoming. A reception by the Father for the children he loves.
\nLiberation must always be about fleeing to<\/em> someone<\/strong> (the One)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

…and that someone isn’t just another warden in a different prison, but One who wants our peace to be fully realized.<\/p>\n

It’s about\u00a0community identity<\/strong> and belonging<\/strong>.
\nEach\u00a0brings freedom and saves us from ourselves.<\/p>\n

Sometimes we suppose liberation means freedom to act autonomously and unilaterally for our own interests.
\nTrue liberation is the antithesis of that.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I consider, in this very moment, what I hope to be liberated from in my own life, it seems to concern being\u00a0free from believing<\/em> lies. Lies about myself, others, and any\u00a0sorts of ignoble things that imprison my future in a jailhouse of smallness.<\/p>\n

A confined place that is missing the grandeur of what it means to be a sentient being enjoying the majesty of creation that a benevolent incomprehendable Being has fashioned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
