It\u2019s hard to pray to God as Father when you\u2019ve had a bad dad. What should I do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 How do we think about God? (usually like a human person or institution)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 God is Spirit not an old white man in the sky with a long beard.<\/p>\n<p>What adjectives will help you connect with the Being typically called \u201cGod\u201d<\/p>\n<p>4:00<\/p>\n<p>Hebrew word for God is a description too (yahweh \u201cI am\u201d a verb) that was not used. Adonai\u00a0 was substituted and that simply means \u201cMaster\/Lord\u201d and is a term of respect.<\/p>\n<p>4:30<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s misguided to think that God can be contained or described well using a &#8220;Proper Noun&#8221;. God can\u2019t be called a proper name\/noun&#8230;like \u201cBilly\u201d (and that would make Jesus \u201cBilly Jr.\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Hebrew names are\u00a0descriptive when referring to people (not how we use names to address people\u00a0today).<\/p>\n<p>5:00<\/p>\n<p><b><i>YAHWEH (Hebrew word), means I AM<\/i><\/b>\u00a0(or &#8220;is&#8221;) and works like\u00a0a verb denoting Presence an Love in Action. It defies typical proper names and descriptions.<\/p>\n<p>5:50<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. On Forgiveness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhat should I do to forgive when I can\u2019t forget?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>6:10<\/p>\n<p>Forgiving is a continual process.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking of forgiveness as transactional\u2013a debt clearing mechanism. Be an accountant and don\u2019t worry about your emotions being on the same page.<\/p>\n<p>7:20<\/p>\n<p>Remembering that you are not your thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>8:00<\/p>\n<p>What Justice is actually (Shalom). Making things right and reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>8:50<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. What to do about envying others (in this case writers in the field) and being jealous of their success.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>9:15<\/p>\n<p>Seeing the negative emotions as tools. Reframing them to use them to find our calling, gifts, and passions.<\/p>\n<p>9:30<\/p>\n<p>Not getting caught up in \u201cshould\u201d and \u201coughts\u201d and comparisons.<\/p>\n<p>9:45<\/p>\n<p>When you can say of your work, \u201cWow, I get to do this!\u201d you can have enough gratitude to be comfortable with the success of others.<\/p>\n<p>10:15<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s common and normal to get feelings of jealousy. It\u2019s only when the take over our hearts and mind do we need to reevaluate and recalibrate what we are doing and thinking.<\/p>\n<p>11:00<\/p>\n<p>Deciding that the options of other people and the opinions should have huge power is a choice we can change.<\/p>\n<p>12:05<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Shame becomes a decision of who we are as person.<\/p>\n<p>14:05<\/p>\n<p>Being put to shame by parents and others.<\/p>\n<p>14:50<\/p>\n<p>A mistake isn\u2019t part of who you are.<\/p>\n<p>Redemption is always possible. Church isn\u2019t working for me anymore and I feel guilty leaving the church, but I don\u2019t feel fed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the U.S. we often go to church as a consumers and look for what we can get out of it. Church can be piss poor.<\/p>\n<p>17:00<\/p>\n<p>Look for ways to give and minister and find connection in other ways.<\/p>\n<p>18:00<\/p>\n<p>For me, small groups were a starting point that lead me to seminary.<\/p>\n<p>18:50<\/p>\n<p>Bringing back the potluck and sharing life with people.<\/p>\n<p>19:30<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we sense church isn\u2019t \u201cworking\u201d when meaningful connection is lacking.<\/p>\n<p>20:30<\/p>\n<p>\u201cwe\u201d is better than \u201cme\u201d.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><em>Thank you for listening and sharing the show with others.
