Go for it!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2205\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2205\" style=\"width: 131px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lifeasprayer.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/sarahc.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2205\" title=\"SarahC\" src=\"http:\/\/lifeasprayer.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/sarahc.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"131\" height=\"114\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sarah Cunningham<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Guest Post from SARAH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>On Change<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dear readers of the lovely Lisa Colon Delay.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to let you in on a little secret.<\/p>\n<p><em>Just because I wrote a book on change doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m good at changing. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You might even say I\u2019m bad at it. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Resistance to change is not necessarily a good quality when it comes to faith.<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes I\u2019m lazy.<\/p>\n<p>Not changing just seems easier.<\/p>\n<p>Its easier to view conversion as an event frozen in time, tucked away with Shrinky Dinks, glow worms, and other relics from the 1980s (or whatever decade <em>you<\/em> came to the faith).<\/p>\n<p>Its more convenient to leave conversion there, during that one shining moment when we turned to God, than to continue to lug the light around where it might inadvertently illuminate things that still need changing.<\/p>\n<p>This is what we tell ourselves anyways.<\/p>\n<p>That its easier to let ourselves off the hook when our flaws rear their heads.<\/p>\n<p>Its easier to protect our pride.<\/p>\n<p>To keep being <em>a little bit <\/em>controlling.<\/p>\n<p>To insist losing our temper is just the \u201cway we are\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Changing those sorts of things takes too much energy.<\/p>\n<p>It costs too much.<\/p>\n<p>Not changing is just cheaper.<\/p>\n<p>Or is it?<\/p>\n<p>It sorta depends on how you calculate the cost.<\/p>\n<p>After all, our lack of change is probably costing someone.<\/p>\n<p>Like the people who have to smack into the wall of our pride on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p>Like the family or friends or co-workers we manipulate.<\/p>\n<p>Like the wounded left in the wake of our temper tantrums.<\/p>\n<p>There is also, of course, the cost to ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>The damage to the life God intended for us.<\/p>\n<p>A life that is a little more scarred, a little more strained, a little more convoluted.<\/p>\n<p>A cheapened version of the life-to-the-full Jesus said he came to bring.<\/p>\n<p>So we sidestep the cost of personal reflection and hard work to confront our flaws.<\/p>\n<p>But do all those times when we cheap-skate change end up being more expensive in the end?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>What do <\/strong><em><strong>you<\/strong><\/em><strong> think?
