5 Questions to Ask at your “Crossroads Moments”

I find myself at crossroads…a lot. I’m met with choices, options, and opportunities routinely. Maybe everyone is.

Here are some good questions to ask:

1. Why have I been on the path that I’m on now?

For growth?

For new opportunities?

To “fix something”?

To avoid something?

To learn something?

…it just sorta “happened”…

What else?

(list these)

2. Where am I finding meaning and satisfaction right now?

Is this from something different than I anticipated? Which part is the best fit that I should step into now? What have been the surprises?

3. Is there anything I need to finish before I take a different path?

What might I be tempted to run from, overlook, or avoid instead of deal with? How do I properly conclude this portion of the trip? Have I collected baggage, and if so, what should stay behind? (most of it)

4. What will be some of the challenges this new path will bring?

Since the new path isn’t truly greener, at least not in every way, where will there growing points for me? (places where I’ll be refined) What resistance or obstacles will need to be dealt with? (All whilst knowing that full knowledge of this part is incomplete.)

5. Does this new path lock me into something?

If so, what? And is that beneficial? Are there alternatives once I take this path, if so what? Wiggle room? Where will I need to make sure I fortify my commitment?

Maybe applying these questions to something you’re going through will help you right now. I hope so.

And I could use your help:

When you find yourself at a crossroads, what questions do you ask?

How do you choose the next path?

God’s Omnipotence

There’s been some talk about Open Theism on the inter webs by Tripp Fuller and Bo Sanders (The Homebrewed Christianity dudes) lately, so I thought my theology professors should weigh in, because for nerds like me, we have fun in dialogue like this.

What trumps answers?

People love to give advice. So, answers aren’t hard to come by. But, I don’t think answers cause change. I think they can short circuit thinking. So, thinking is in short supply.

What works better than answers?

What incites thinking?

(psst. the question is always the answer…)

What do you think it is?

2012 Predictions:

1. Mit Romney will accidentally expose the battery pack that gives him life, and grey hair confined to the temples.

2. 8% unemployment will be seen as “the glory days of old”.

3. Obama will sustain another basketball injury. This time a ligament, and a foreshadowing of things to come.

4. The London summer olympics will give us a jolly good overload on all things British.

5. The Mayan focus will renew interest in corn…as a killer.

Happy Christmas!

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
