I’m inviting us to look to the spiritual insights of our siblings of the American Black Church and the contemplative practices of embodied lament that are a testament to their spiritual nourishment and survival under the horrific institution of slavery and continual mistreatment and injustice endured since the African diaspora of the 1450s. I am reading passages from Barbara A. Holmes powerful work Joy Unspeakable: Contemplative Practices of the Black Church.
