Where the World Ends; poet, Joy Harjo [SSL155]

Poetry by its form and delivery can create space and time for reflection giving us a chance to feel clarity and more abundance. Today I share 3 poems that give us a most extraordinary look at ordinary things that mark our lives and weave them tougher by a talented woman who is a sage for us especially in more difficult times.
Joy Harjo was appointed the United States poet laureate in 2019. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1951, Harjo is a member of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation.  🚩and accept my apologies, in this episode I mispronounce Harjo with a Spanish silent “J”. <HAR-joe> is the correct way to say this poet’s surname. Eps 139: The final interview of the late poet, Anya Krugovoy Silver

SPECIAL RELEASE
Episode 139

Anya Krugovoy Silver • December 22, 1968 – August 6, 2018

This audio is released in the memory and honor of the late poet, Anya Krugovoy Silver who died August 6, 2018, just days after this conversation was recorded.

Though she fought terminal inflammatory breast cancer for 14 years, at the time of this recording she told me how she was beginning her fifth book of poetry using her recently-award 2018 Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry– and we had planned to meet for a visit in early October. I personally had no sense that she would not be alive to hear the release of this audio, and that she would pass away just a few days later.

Her passing is a devastating loss and her spirited life continues to be an inspiration to me and to all who knew her. I grieve along with those who knew and loved her and I offer my deepest condolences to those missing her.

Find her incredible four books of poetry HERE

Today, comes some beauty and wisdom from the late author and poet John O Donohue on the topics of connection, separation, embodiment, grief, and the threshold our soul crosses into belonging and a few of my own reflections. His words are deeply poignant, so, please visit his website, and follow the links listed below for even more interaction with his work. His accent is a delightful treat as well.

God is only our name for it

I was so impacted by this conversation, I had to embed the audio for you to enjoy!

My favorite quote:

“God is only our name for it and the closer we get to it the more it ceases to be God. Then you are on a real Safari with the wildness, and the danger and the Otherness of God” John O’Donohue
