An inside peek to summer 2015

Look a regular blog post…wow!

If you’ve visited this website over the years, you probably noticed that I’ve usually published a post (article) about 2-3 times per week. Not so this year.

I’m broadening and enhancing my own process of creation this year; I learned how to podcast and I’ve been releasing audio here (and on iTunes and Stitcher) each Wednesday since late April.

• Some fantastic guests have been on the show and some wonderful ones will be coming on the show soon and it’s going to be a lot of fun!

For tiny glimpse…Mako Fujimura, Shane Claiborne, and Nicole Unice will be guests in the next weeks and months, (and plenty more who aren’t as famous but super insightful and interesting as well).

Because, I’ve had the unique experience of working at a winery and vineyard, I have also included a “wine education” segment each show.

• After episode 15, I’ll be pulling that segment out, and adding it back in when (and if) listeners submit questions about wine that they want me to cover on the show.

• I send out an update newsletter 2-3 times per month to alert you to shows and new stuff. So, if you are not on the list…please sign up! (HERE)

Other things I should mention.

• I will be making some things available for patrons only. (sponsors)

Extras, documents, resources, transcripts and other goodies are to be included.

See how to get in on that here.

• I’m hosting a relaxing retreat and gathering for creatives. There’s just 10 spots.
Want to come? Find out more here.

• I have a little summer challenge for you. See if it sparks your creative muse.
Question Quest

• I’m deciding whether or not to release two episodes per week. I need to hear from you. Does one seem like enough, or would you enjoy a double scoop? :)

Will there still be blog posts?

Yes. A few times per month…plus….

• Video updates.

(That’s the plan anyway.)

So, I’d like to hear from you.

1. What are your favorite things here at the site?

2. Which podcasts have you like the most? (and why?)

3. What’s missing?

(Do you have suggestions? I’d like to hear them! Just leave your comments below or contact me privately, here.)

Writing for the 2% -publishing

Screen Shot 2015-03-28 at 10.39.42 AMThe cost is prohibitive. Monetary success is doubtful. Potential buyers (probably you) will wince, and balk and hem and haw and most will click away…

So why bother?
I wrote a book for the 2%.
It’s something I had to write down for my kids, and to leave something behind that I want to be most remembered for. That path means you have to do it differently, because–to put in bluntly–publishers want a sure-sell and are trying to make money. They don’t care about the things I care about.

I raised the money to make this book. In 2 days on Kickstarter I got the funds to do design it and do a small run and mail off copies to those who funded it. Now I’ve put it on the market at a high price. Chances are you won’t want to buy it. If you do, you will understand why I had to do it. There just isn’t another way–and that’s okay.

I give (and have given) a lot of things away here at the website. Resources, information, tips, ebooks, graphics, etc, and I plan to write more things and create more things at modest prices. But, not for this one. It’s high-end and worth a different route.

If you get a copy, let me know what you liked the best about the book.
I hope you enjoy it!

YES, 3 New Designs for you

See the new stuff?
Pretty cool, huh?

I’ve decided to create something you might like, and use all the proceeds to fund my work with prison inmates.

This is a limited run of original art.

When you purchase one of these gems, you won’t just have obvious, awesome coolness about you, you will be directly helping me minister to inmates.

I’m training and teaching them crucial life skills to be successful, productive, and law-abiding citizens when they return to life outside prison.

Criminals shouldn’t be forgotten. They should be transformed. That’s my mission. You can help.

Getting a shirt or tote is an easy WIN-WIN.

So, SHARE-SHARE. Spread the word.

This is the PRE-Order phase.
(Only 250 will be made, so jump in and pre-order soon.)

Thank you for your help.

I hope you enjoy sporting these designs as much as I enjoyed creating them.

[NOTE: Monthly sponsors (partners) get all the creations I come up with and extra treats too. Quarterly goodie packages full of surprises are delivered to your door. Click here for more info.]

Something for Lent: This Amazing Requiem (video)

Use this as a vehicle for worship today. It is the very definition of art.

The beauty of this short performance comes to us, like most great art, bittersweet–for it reveals both the masterpiece and fragility of humankind. The beauty of voice, musical composition, and the sorrow of a requiem needing to be sung at all.

It also evokes the hope of blessed rest and solace of the great Comforter.

In 1986, this Requiem earned Lloyd Webber a Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition. It was composed in a style unlike any of his other works after the sudden death of his father.

Unlike a traditional requiem mass, Lloyd Webber combined the texts of the Pie Jesu and Agnus Dei.

Here is vocal prodigy, Jackie Evancho, performing it. (Scroll down to read the lyrics in both Latin and English)

“Pie Jesu” Latin Lyrics
Pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu
Qui tollis peccata mundi
Dona eis requiem, dona eis requiem
Pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu, pie Jesu
Qui tollis peccata mundi
Dona eis requiem, dona eis requiem
Agnus Dei, Agnus Dei, Agnus Dei, Agnus Dei
Qui tollis peccata mundi
Dona eis requiem, dona eis requiem
